The Food Song
-
The Food Song is a song from the 2nd grade general music textbook Spotlight on Music published by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill.
-
In Spring of 2011, I had my 2nd graders from the private Christian academy perform this piece at our talent show, and combined with the PowerPoint slideshow presentation I created, it was a huge success!

The Food Song

I recommend playing this version first, just so that your students get a feel for what it is...
-
Then, you can go through each slide and focus on getting students to properly pronounce each food item and then briefly discuss country of origin, etc.
-
Vocals Only
-
Girls only (mezzo-soprano)
-
Boys only (baritone)
-
Next, try these versions which get your students' attention away from the pictures and towards the lyrics, as well as their ears trained for the pitches...
I recommend guys sing an octave lower than the girls; therefore there are separate MIDI files for practice with just girls or boys.
-
FYI, despite being written for elementary students, the singers who performed this were actually a select group of middle school students from Indiana
(as they were from an experienced choir and their voices were more developed).

Finally, use this for your students to sing-along with (rehearse) and have fun performing!
